Grow your skills. Shape the future. Build a career outdoors.
At Ground Control, we're looking for an enthusiastic Landscape Apprentice to join our team and help create greener, more sustainable environments on a major infrastructure project.
This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience, recognised qualifications and the practical skills needed to build a successful career in landscaping.
Working alongside experienced Landscape Operatives, you'll learn how to plant and care for trees, maintain new green spaces and support projects that make a lasting difference to the environment.
No previous landscaping experience is needed. Just bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in working outdoors.
Why this role?
This is more than just an apprenticeship. It's your opportunity to develop valuable skills, gain a recognised qualification and take your first steps towards a rewarding career in landscaping.
You'll receive practical training, guidance from experienced colleagues and dedicated time to complete your apprenticeship studies, all while earning a salary.
Best of all, you'll see the results of your hard work first-hand, helping create landscapes that support biodiversity and will continue to grow and thrive for generations.
What you'll do
Learn how to plant trees, shrubs and whips, helping create new green spaces across a major infrastructure site.
Assist with preparing planting areas and installing stakes, guards and protective materials.
Help maintain newly planted landscapes, including watering, weeding, mulching, pruning and grass cutting.
Learn to use landscaping tools and equipment safely, including strimmer’s, brush cutters and mowers.
Work alongside experienced colleagues to understand planting plans, quality standards and environmental requirements.
Learn to read, understand and implement landscape construction drawings and specifications, ensuring planting and landscaping works are carried out accurately and to the required standards.
Follow site health and safety procedures, keeping yourself and others safe.
Take part in apprenticeship training, complete practical assessments and maintain your learning portfolio.
As your confidence and skills develop, you'll gradually take on more responsibility and work towards becoming a fully qualified Landscape Operative.
What we're looking for
You don't need previous landscaping experience or specialist qualifications to get started. We're looking for someone with the right attitude and enthusiasm to learn.
A genuine interest in landscaping, plants and the environment.
A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
Enjoyment of practical, hands-on work and being outdoors in all weather conditions.
Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and safety guidance.
Reliable, punctual and able to travel to site for early starts.
Comfortable carrying out physical work as part of a team.
Willingness to complete apprenticeship training and assessments.
Eligibility to work in the UK and enrol on a funded apprenticeship.
A CSCS Apprentice Card will be required before starting work on site, but Ground Control will support you in obtaining this.
Desirable, but not essential:
GCSEs or equivalent in English and maths.
Previous experience of gardening, landscaping, farming or other outdoor activities.
A full or provisional UK driving licence.
