Lead commercial performance. Influence business decisions. Drive success across some of the UK's most exciting landscaping, environmental and energy projects.
At Ground Control, we're looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join our growing Landscape, Design & Energy Division.
This is more than a traditional commercial management role. You'll provide commercial leadership across a diverse portfolio of landscaping, environmental, public realm and energy projects, partnering closely with operational teams to maximise profitability, manage risk and support sustainable business growth.
Working alongside divisional leaders, you'll take ownership of commercial governance, financial performance and contractual management, ensuring projects are delivered successfully while protecting and enhancing commercial outcomes. You'll also play a key role in developing commercial capability across the division, supporting teams through every stage of the project lifecycle, from tender through to final account.
Whether it's delivering large-scale landscaping schemes, environmental improvements, ecological enhancements, public realm projects or supporting the growth of our energy portfolio, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact across a varied and rewarding programme of work.
What you'll do;
Lead the commercial performance of a portfolio of landscaping, environmental and energy projects, ensuring profitability and strong commercial governance throughout delivery.
Manage and develop commercial team members, providing leadership, support and mentoring to drive high performance.
Own monthly commercial reporting, including CVRs, forecasting, pipeline analysis, sales reporting and margin tracking across the division.
Partner closely with operational leaders and project teams, providing commercial insight, support and challenge to maximise project success.
Support pre-construction, estimating and bid teams, providing commercial input into tenders, frameworks and new business opportunities.
Review, negotiate and administer contracts, ensuring all agreements align with company governance and commercial objectives.
Drive effective cost control and forecasting, identifying risks, opportunities, overspend and margin improvement initiatives.
Manage valuations, certifications and payment processes, ensuring completed works are accurately valued and payments are secured in line with contractual requirements.
Lead change control and variation management, ensuring additional works are identified, valued and agreed promptly.
Work collaboratively with clients, Quantity Surveyors and stakeholders, building strong relationships while protecting Ground Control's commercial position.
Oversee procurement and subcontract management activities, including package preparation, quotation reviews and supply chain engagement.
Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks, reducing exposure to disputes, claims and delayed payments.
Ensure contractual compliance throughout project delivery, managing notices, obligations and governance requirements.
Attend and lead commercial reviews, providing detailed financial and contractual insight to senior stakeholders.
Support the continued growth of the division, contributing to strategic planning, forecasting and business performance initiatives.
What you'll get;
A senior leadership role within Ground Control's growing Landscape, Design & Energy division
The opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of landscaping, environmental, public realm and energy projects
Strategic involvement in commercial planning, business performance and growth initiatives
The opportunity to influence divisional decision-making and commercial strategy
The chance to lead and develop commercial professionals within a supportive environment
Flexibility and autonomy with a hybrid working approach
Collaboration with experienced operational, commercial and leadership teams
Structured professional development and learning opportunities through GC University
The opportunity to contribute to projects that create lasting environmental and community benefits
What we're looking for;
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
Extensive experience within a Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial leadership role
A proven track record of managing project finances, forecasting, cost control and commercial reporting
Strong knowledge of contract administration, procurement, commercial governance and change management processes
Experience negotiating and managing complex contracts and commercial relationships
The ability to lead, mentor and develop commercial teams
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make informed business decisions
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence at all levels
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet challenging deadlines
A proactive approach to identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
Experience within landscaping, environmental contracting, public realm, external works, ecological, arboriculture, grounds maintenance, energy or related sectors would be highly advantageous

A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required
