At Ground Control, we deliver complex rail, infrastructure, and utilities projects across national and regional frameworks. We’re looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of commercial performance, ensuring projects are delivered profitably, accurately, and in line with contractual requirements.
This is a senior role where your commercial insight, attention to detail, and ability to influence stakeholders will directly impact project success.
What you’ll do
You’ll lead the commercial management of projects and frameworks, working closely with operational teams to drive performance and protect margin.
• Manage project budgets, cost reporting, and overall financial performance
• Deliver monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR), identifying risks and opportunities early
• Provide accurate forecasting and manage cost variances against budget
• Prepare and submit monthly valuations, ensuring full commercial entitlement is achieved
• Identify, price, and manage variations and change control
• Work closely with client QS representatives to agree valuations and variations
• Support procurement activities, including subcontractor packages and material schedules
• Manage subcontractor accounts, payments, and change agreements
• Review labour costs, timesheets, and invoices to ensure alignment with project plans
• Maintain robust document control across all commercial and contractual records
• Support delay analysis and entitlement claims, including contractual notices
• Attend contract review meetings, providing clear insight into financial performance
• Proactively identify and mitigate commercial risks

What we’re looking for
Essential
• Degree-qualified or professionally accredited (RICS or equivalent experience)
• Strong experience in quantity surveying and commercial management
• Proven track record managing project finances, including CVR, forecasting, and reporting
• Solid understanding of cost management, contract law, procurement, and change control
• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
• Confident communicator, able to engage with clients, project teams, and stakeholders
• Highly organised, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Desirable
• RICS membership
• Experience working across rail, infrastructure, or utilities projects
• Experience managing procurement schedules and subcontractor relationships
• Leadership or mentoring experience
