What you’ll do:
In this role, you’ll be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for de-vegetation and minor civils projects, analysing tender documents, and producing supporting cost information. You’ll liaise with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather quotations, provide commercial insight, and support business development activities. Working closely with operational teams, you’ll ensure estimates are practical, provide smooth handovers after contract awards, and assist with cost planning and project performance reviews. This requires strong experience in estimating across vegetation management or civils sectors, excellent numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to interpret technical documentation while building effective client and supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimating & Tendering
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for de-vegetation and minor civils projects.
- Analyse tender documentation, drawings, and specifications.
- Produce bills of quantities, schedules of rates, and supporting documents.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options within tenders.
- Commercial & Client Engagement
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather quotations and technical information.
- Support business development and tender presentations as required.
- Maintain awareness of market rates, industry trends, and competitor activity.
- Collaboration & Delivery
- Work closely with operational and project delivery teams to ensure estimates are practical and achievable.
- Provide handover information to project managers following contract award.
- Assist in cost planning, forecasting, and project performance reviews.
What we’re looking for:
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in estimating within vegetation management, utilities, highways, rail, or civils sectors.
- Strong knowledge of de-vegetation methods, environmental considerations, and minor civil engineering works (e.g., fencing, drainage, small structures).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and IT skills (MS Excel, estimating software, etc.).
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with clients and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts advantageous.
