🌳 Shape the Future of Arboriculture with Us
Ground Control’s Professional Services team is expanding and we’re looking for a driven Senior Arboricultural Consultant to take on a pivotal role in our Western Region (Birmingham, Wales, South West).
With major national clients, a pipeline of multimillion-pound projects, and a growing team of consultants, this is your opportunity to combine technical expertise, client leadership, and team management in a role that offers real scope to make an impact.
🔑What You'll Do:
As a Senior Arboricultural Consultant you will lead and manage high-profile arboricultural projects from inception to completion. You’ll provide expert tree-related advice to a wide range of clients, guide your own team of consultants, and play a pivotal role in the growth and success of our thriving department.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Arboricultural Consultant, you’ll balance technical delivery with leadership responsibilities, helping shape the future of our expanding arboricultural services. You will:
Lead major projects – from large-scale multi-site tree condition surveys (VTA) to BS5837:2012-compliant planning work.
Manage multiple projects – ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical and financial standards (minimum 40% gross margin).
Act as a trusted advisor – liaising with clients across sectors including utilities, commercial estates, and infrastructure (e.g. HS2, Bupa, Asda, Severn Trent, Canal & River Trust).
Line-manage and mentor consultants – initially managing two direct reports in Wales and the South West, with scope to grow the team as you bring in new work.
Contribute to business growth – preparing tenders, fee quotes, and supporting the Head of Department in developing client relationships.
Stay hands-on – carrying out your own surveys and consultancy work alongside management responsibilities.
🌟Why You'll Love It:
Freedom to shape and grow your own regional team.
Opportunity to work on some of the UK’s largest and most high-profile arboricultural projects.
Supportive, sociable team culture – professional, but never too serious to share a laugh.
Part of a department that’s rebranding and investing for growth, giving you visibility and career progression.
👤What we’re looking for:
You’ll be a proven consultant with the technical and commercial skills to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Specifically, you’ll have:
Minimum Level 4 qualification in Arboriculture (or higher).
LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection qualification.
Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association (or working towards).
Proven consultancy experience (3+ years), including project and client management.
Strong knowledge of BS5837:2012, tree risk assessment, planning policy, pests & diseases.
Experience managing people or projects, with the confidence to grow and mentor a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Commercial awareness – understanding of project costs, margins, and resourcing.
Competence with GIS, CAD, or tree survey software.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Western Region.
