What you’ll do:

You will fully manage either a stand-alone contract and/or contract area as part of a wider framework agreement. You will have profit and loss responsibility and, through a team of Site Managers, will be responsible for driving programme delivery. You will ensure work is completed to the highest possible standards in terms of safety, environment, quality, customer service and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
The sustainability of our business and our ability to invest for the future is dependent on our financial strength; In addition our financial performance has a direct impact on our staff’s remuneration and rewards. In your role, you have a very high degree of influence on financial outcomes. As such, demonstrate:
- Exceed budgeted operating profit (always complying with our philosophy on Prudence which takes precedence over profitability) WIP will be reviewed on at least a monthly basis.
- Work with BD colleagues to win work that we want to win,
- Achieve a high level of safety awareness and employee/field team safety accountability throughout their assigned region to achieve zero lost time accidents per year and TRIR of 0.
- Responsible for the input of all tender opportunities across your assigned geographic area and for the timely submission of applicable tenders. Be part of the Gateway process and ensure it’s adhered to. Work with the Senior team to review the risk profile of our tendering activity and, as required, amend our offering to get the right balance between risk vs. reward
- Review all contract documentation and in consultation with Snr Manager and Rail Commercial agree payment terms prior to contract start.
- Work with the business to source and recruit sufficient field team resource to appropriately deliver your contracts. Field teams to conform to the ‘GC model’. Performance and RAG rating to be reviewed quarterly in accordance with GC policy. Resilience and over dependence on any particular teams to be avoided.
- As part of tender submission and prior to contract start you will develop a programme delivery plan to appropriately deliver each contract.
- Ensure that all field teams use appropriate GC systems (e.g. Visitrak).
- Ensure that Site Managers are verifying that field teams submitted site completion documentation before invoices are approved for payment.
- If applicable, make an accurate application for payment for completed works in Network Rail’s earliest available applications window.
- Assist Rail Commercial and Finance teams to resolve any slow or late payment issues satisfactorily.
- As directed, cover the Senior Manager’s duties whilst they are out of the business.
- Ensure the satisfactory resolution of all landowner complaints in their assigned regions.
- Take responsibility for the training and mentoring of new Site Managers and Trainee Site Managers. The former will be self-sufficient within 3 months of joining the business, the latter 6 months.
- In their assigned regions, ensure that there are no outstanding induction training, tool box talk returns, probation reviews, appraisals, and disciplinary/grievance hearings.
- Capture lessons learnt at contract completion.

- To participate in, understand and implement behavioural safety management programmes within their region.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Practiced and strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- IT competent.
- Well-developed team management and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and balance demands from numerous sources to ensure that all stakeholder needs are met.
